bigot   Someone who disagrees with me. Someone who objects to bigots.

boring     Men worry that having children will make them “boring” – this is code for “can’t go out and get drunk with other men”. Guardian Nov 09

competitive   beats me at Scrabble

complex character   contradictory, with many bad sides

dapper, urbane   applied to a man, means “old”

deep   secretive, mendacious

diminutive   a short person you like

down to earth   insufferably gross

eccentric, erratic     completely barking
elegant   applied to a woman, means “old”

feisty   only used of women, like sassy. Code for uppity, ballbreaker, frightening, aggressive, too independent, confrontational

hearty   Boy-Scouty, Woodcraft Folky. Forced jollity fuelled only by tea and orange squash. A bit like worthy.

hypersensitive   disagrees with me, fights back when bullied, easily dismissed, lacks a posse of frightening supporters

manipulative   gets her own way too often

mercurial   rude, bad-tempered

open   showing emotions

openness and honesty are very important in relationships   everybody lies all the time

opinionated    disagrees with me

outspoken   abusive, teller of painful truths, blunt (Word thesaurus says: “very frank or straightforward and showing no delicacy or consideration” – ie no tap dancing around the subject, no diplomacy, no “Up to a point, Lord Copper”)

shallow   only interested in boys, money, drink, sex, pop music, TV, having fun. Also rather dim. What people used to call superficial. Merriam-Webster: “SHALLOW is more generally derogatory in implying lack of depth in knowledge, reasoning, emotions, or character.”  Seems to mean “judging people on looks alone”.

volatile   rude, bad-tempered

works well as part of a team, team player   takes orders, doesn’t want to run things, always cheerful and “positive”, never critical or complaining
